We have an exciting role on offer within our Specialist and Lifelong Services as a Social Worker.

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified social worker to join our established Learning Disability. You will hold a social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.

The team supports people with a learning disability from the age of 18 years. The work is varied, demanding and very rewarding.

As a social worker you will work closely with colleagues within the Learning Disabilities Team as well as partners from Health, the voluntary and charitable sector and with children’s services and education for those young people coming through transitions into adult social care.

We are looking for someone who is creative and can think outside the box when working to support people with a learning disability to achieve better outcomes.

We expect our experienced Social Workers to hold BIA (grade K and L), Practice Educator or AMHP (grade L) qualifications as outlined in our progression criteria. If you do not currently hold the relevant qualification, we welcome your application and will expect a commitment to undertaking the appropriate training upon commencing employment, with full support provided.

Applications for the post are invited from individuals who are committed to demonstrating the values of Middlesbrough Council.

To help us recruit social workers who are committed to working in Middlesbrough we are currently offering a 10% supplement to social work salaries, which will be reviewed at the end of March 2026.

If this is you, this may be the opportunity you are looking for!

If you would like to talk through this opportunity further, please contact Susan Kish: Manager, Learning Disabilities Team on Susan_Kish@Middlesbrough.gov.uk or 01642 729663.
