About The Role

To help OCS develop and maintain a positive approach to QHSE by coaching, supporting, advising and guiding operational managers and operational teams in relation to QHSE matters. Influence behaviour and coach others to deliver the QHSE Management System. Deliver a risk based QHSE audit programme and to carry out accident and incident investigations (as directed).


Key Responsibilities

* To help up-skill operational management so that their QHSE competence, confidence and abilities are enhanced.
* To participate in policy and process review to help achieve simplicity of access, easy understanding and full implementation.
* To communicate proactively on QHSE issues and, as requested, prepare reports, bulletins and briefs to promote learning.
* To react to emerging challenges and adapt as necessary.
* To support delivery of QHSE strategic objectives and initiatives targeted at continual QHSE improvement.
* To support the business to manage effectively QHSE matters and to be capable of taking appropriate and timely corrective action when required.
* To carry out QHSE audits, to be completed to an agreed schedule, in order to identify nonconformance and advise upon corrective actions.
* To carry out accident and incident investigations (as directed) and produce reports with recommendations in conjunction with management to facilitate corrective and preventative action.
* To provide competent advice and support to the business to assist adverse event investigation and proactive follow-up of lessons learnt.
* To liaise, as required, with any enforcement authority (e.g. HSE, EHO) carrying out an investigation involving OCS and to co-ordinate any requests from that authority.
* To represent the QHSE Team at meetings providing specialist knowledge and guidance on compliance and resilience activities.
* To give credibility to the role by actively building effective working relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
* To keep up to date with new legislation and industry initiatives to ensure maintenance of CPD.
* To work collaboratively and constructively with other members of the QHSE Team to ensure a consistent and seamless delivery of QHSE support across OCS.
* To work collaboratively and constructively with the OCS Operational Management team and associated Stakeholders (Hitachi UK – Train Presentation and HSE team)

* Exercise independent judgment, reasonable care, skill and diligence when carrying out their duties.
* Act in good faith and promote the long-term success of each company within the UK & Ireland group for the benefit of all members and wider stakeholders.
* Adhere to and promote the UK & Ireland group’s policies on equality & diversity, information security, health and safety and data protection in the performance of their duties.
* Support and promote the UK & Ireland group’s sustainability plans and policies, including the Carbon Management Plan, and carry out duties in a resource effective way, recognizing the shared responsibility of minimizing negative environmental impacts wherever possible.


Necessary

* NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Healthand Safety (or equivalent)
* TECH IOSH status
* Detailed andcomprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety compliance and statutoryrequirements placed on the business.
* Extensive practicalsafety management and delivery experience, preferably in a services,manufacturing, industrial or engineering environment. A working knowledge ofenvironmental law is preferred.
* A proven history ofworking in relevant industry sectors is important combined with specialistknowledge of services e.g. hard services, cleaning, working at height,security, catering, logistics, cleansing, aviation andtransport, facilities management.
* A credible level ofexperience in investigating significant events and in dealing with enforcementagencies. A good knowledge and understanding of civil claims and criminalenforcement.
* Combined with the hands-ondelivery required in this role is strategic project work.Therefore, an analytical approach to problemsolving and decision making is essential.
* Able to operate andcommunicate competently with any level of customer within both the internal andexternal client organisation.
* The ability todemonstrate proactive customer relationship management and effectiverelationship building is essential.
* Confident whendealing with the enforcing authorities.
* Seek to create a “Just Culture” model learning from mistakes.
* Behaves in an ethicaland sustainable way in all they do
* Full UK driverslicense
