Constructex Ltd is a leading specialist contractor in maritime civil engineering. Based in Fareham, Hampshire, we deliver a wide range of projects across the UK and abroad, including inspection, design, repair, construction, and maintenance of marine infrastructure.

The role of Project Manager will suit an experienced Engineer with a background in Civil Engineering or a closely-related speciality. This role may also suit a Design Engineer looking to transition into a contractor environment.

Constructex adopts an engineer-led approach to delivering technically complex and challenging marine and civil engineering projects, where sound engineering judgement remains central throughout the project lifecycle. As such, candidates with a strong civil engineering or design background will continue to develop their technical expertise while gaining valuable exposure to the practical aspects of delivery. This includes responsibility for programme management, procurement, commercial performance, and site-based decision-making. The role offers a well-rounded progression path, enabling engineers to broaden their skillset and take ownership of projects from concept through to completion.

Role Overview

The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful delivery of projects from contract award through to completion and final account.

You will lead project teams, manage client relationships, liaise with site teams, and ensure that projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and in accordance with contractual and technical requirements. At any given time, you will be responsible for multiple projects at varying stages of activity and completion.

This is a fully in-person role, primarily based in our offices in Fareham, but with travel to site locations where necessary.


Key Responsibilities


Project Delivery

* Take full ownership of project delivery, including programme, cost, quality, and risk
* Develop and execute project management plans and delivery strategies
* Lead project teams, including Site Managers and Engineers
* Allocate work packages and manage resources effectively
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records reflecting site progress


Commercial & Contractual Management

* Manage contracts (typically NEC3/NEC4 and JCT), ensuring compliance and protecting commercial position
* Prepare and manage compensation events, variations, and applications for payment
* Develop and maintain project financial plans, including forecasting and cost control
* Approve project expenditure, purchase orders, and invoices
* Ensure timely invoicing and payment collection


Planning & Programme

* Prepare and manage project programmes and budgets
* Monitor progress and implement corrective actions where required
* Coordinate design, procurement, and construction activities to ensure efficient delivery


Client & Stakeholder Management

* Maintain regular communication with clients and stakeholders
* Lead project meetings, progress reporting, and inspections
* Manage stakeholder expectations and resolve issues effectively
* Support business development through strong client relationships


Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

* Lead a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture across projects
* Ensure compliance with legislation, site rules, and company procedures
* Develop and review risk assessments, method statements, and project plans
* Oversee implementation of project-specific HSEQ documentation
* Promote best practice and continuous improvement


Procurement & Resources

* Plan and manage procurement of materials, subcontractors, and plant
* Coordinate with internal teams to ensure resource availability
* Provide accurate resourcing requirements, including labour and accommodation


Technical & Operational Oversight

* Apply engineering judgement to develop practical and effective delivery solutions
* Support preparation of method statements, lift plans, and technical documentation
* Identify and manage technical risks and constraints


Team Leadership & Development

* Manage, mentor, and develop project team members
* Assess competencies and identify training requirements
* Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment


Continuous Improvement

* Contribute to the development and improvement of company systems and processes
* Lead project reviews and ensure lessons learned are captured and shared
* Identify opportunities for innovation and improved delivery method


Key Requirements


Essential

* Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related engineering discipline
* Minimum 5 years’ experience delivering civil engineering or marine projects or as a Design Engineer
* Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a recognised institution such as the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers
* Strong working knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 and/or JCT contracts
* Demonstrable experience managing project commercial performanceExperience leading site-based project teams
* Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practice
* SMSTS (or equivalent)
* CSCS card (Managers & Professionals)
* Full UK driving licence or valid equivalent, and a willingness to travel to project sites as needed


Desirable

* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
* Experience in marine, coastal, or waterfront construction
* Knowledge or experience of commercial diving operations
* Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g. MS Project or equivalent)
* First Aid, Confined Space, or similar site-based qualifications
