Senior Accountant – Strategic Finance RoleOur client, a leader in their industry, is seeking a Senior Accountant to take ownership of the company’s financial management and ensure robust, compliant, and efficient operations. This role is pivotal in delivering accurate financial reporting, leading month-end processes, and providing high-quality support to both the finance team and senior leadership.You will work closely with the Head of Finance, offering clear financial insights to inform key business decisions, managing the audit process, and overseeing cash flow to safeguard the company’s financial stability.Key Responsibilities
* Take charge of the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and reporting is accurate.
* Provide technical accounting guidance to colleagues, including bookkeepers and finance administrators.
* Ensure all financial operations are compliant with company policy, accounting standards, and relevant legislation.
* Act as the main point of contact for external auditors, managing the annual audit from start to finish.
* Prepare monthly management accounts and contribute to group-level financial reports.
* Monitor and forecast cash flow, identifying potential risks and taking proactive measures.
* Assist with annual budget preparation and variance analysis.
* Implement and maintain strong internal financial controls.
* Support tax compliance activities (e.g., VAT, corporation tax) in collaboration with external advisors.
* Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency within the finance function.
* Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic business decisions.
Success Measures
* Month-end reporting delivered on time with full accuracy.
* Smooth, well-organised audit process with minimal adjustments.
* Strong financial controls in place, eliminating material errors.
* Reliable cash flow forecasts and effective budget oversight.
* Finance team supported with timely and accurate technical advice.
About You
* ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent), with a strong background in audit or financial control.
* At least 3 years’ experience in a senior finance position, with proven expertise in month-end processes, reporting, and audit management.
* In-depth technical knowledge of UK accounting standards (FRS 101 / FRS 102).
* Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
* Proven leadership skills, mentoring and guiding junior finance team members.
* Proficient in financial systems (e.g., Sage, Xero, SAP) with advanced Excel skills.
* Comfortable working to tight deadlines and managing multiple priorities.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across the business.
