University of Sheffield
Postdoctoral Research Associate - Ismail Lab
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Ismail Lab at the University of Sheffield, within the Division of Clinical Medicine and the Bateson Centre for Disease Mechanisms. This Versus Arthritis-funded position focuses on understanding how mechanical injury in connective tissues drives inflammation and damage in musculoskeletal diseases such as osteoarthritis, and aims to identify early biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the disease.
The successful candidate will contribute to a multidisciplinary project involving chemoproteomics, spatial transcriptomics, imaging, and animal models. Key responsibilities include processing human tissue samples for mass spectrometry, developing activity-based assays, and performing compound library screening. The role also involves working with inducible murine models of osteoarthritis and applying advanced imaging and transcriptomic techniques to assess tissue damage and inflammation. The lab employs zebrafish-based high-throughput screening and live imaging platforms.
Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field (or have equivalent experience), with experience in cellular signalling, mass spectrometry, murine osteoarthritis models, molecular biology, and genetic manipulation techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9. Skills in bioinformatics, spatial transcriptomics, and fluorescence imaging are highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be an independent and collaborative researcher with a strong interest in musculoskeletal biology and inflammation.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful translational research in a vibrant, collaborative environment. Team spirit and a strong work ethic are essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are expected.
