ThisTechnical Project Manager opportunity is well suited to someone who understands the realities of chip design projects and enjoys working in a small, technically focused team. The role offers real visibility and ownership, supporting a Cambridge-based ASIC design group delivering commercial chip programmes. It would suit someone with solid semiconductor project experience who prefers a hands-on, practical environment over heavy corporate structure.
Our client is a growing semiconductor design company with a compact team of around seven people across design, test and business development. They are currently running one to two ASIC programmes and are looking for someone who can bring structure, commercial awareness and delivery discipline as they scale.
As theTechnical Project Manager, you will take ownership of project coordination across requirements, specifications, block-level definitions and delivery milestones. This is not a role for someone new to chip design — you must understand the common pitfalls of managing ASIC development, even if you were not personally a design engineer
Responsibilities include
* Leading ASIC development projects from requirements through to tape-out readiness
* Coordinating small, highly technical teams and aligning schedules across design and test
* Managing scope, risks, milestones and dependencies in a lean environment
* Supporting definition of requirements, specifications and block-level planning
* Introducing practical, cost-effective project management structure appropriate for a small business
What you’ll bring
* Engineering background with a strong understanding of chip development workflows
* Ability to work effectively in a small, less formal environment
* Comfortable operating without heavy PM tools or rigid corporate processes
* Pragmatic, structured, and commercially aware approach to delivery
Working Structure & Package
* Based in Cambridge, with at least partial on-site presence required
* Open to part-time or fractional arrangements
You’ll join at an important stage in the company’s growth. With expansion expected over the next two years, there is potential to broaden your remit into wider operational leadership as the business scales. It’s an opportunity to shape how projects are delivered within a technically strong but agile organisation.
