A large organisation based in Cardiff.
Your new role
We are seeking a hands-on Azure Cloud Platform Engineer to support, focusing on delivery of a greenfield environment into an existing Azure environment to host multi-terabytes of data and the establishment of a secure, scalable cloud data platform.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineer and execute large-scale data transfer and migration of datasets into Azure.
2. Design and implement Azure-based storage solutions (Blob, ADLS Gen2) appropriate for high-volume, high-throughput data.
3. Configure and manage secure data ingestion patterns, including private networking, firewalls, and endpoint controls.
4. Implement role-based access control (RBAC) and data access segregation aligned toernance and IG requirements.
5. Build and maintain infrastructure as code for the platform using Terraform or Bicep.
6. Support platformponents required for downstream analytics and HPC-style workloads (without owning analytics design).
7. Produce clear technical documentation covering architecture, data flows, and operational processes.
8. Work within agile delivery methods and collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and delivery leads.
What you'll need to succeed
Required Skills and Experience
9. Strong hands-on experience as a Cloud Engineer or Platform Engineer.
10. Significant experience designing and operating Microsoft Azure environments.
11. Proven experience migrating large-scale datasets (tens to hundreds of TB) into cloud platforms.
12. Deep understanding of Azure storage services, particularly Blob Storage and ADLS Gen2.
13. Strong experience with Azure networking, including private endpoints, VNET integration, and firewalling.
14. Practical experience implementing RBAC, managed identities, and least-privilege access models.
15. Experience using Terraform and/or Bicep for automated infrastructure provisioning.
16. Ability to troubleshoot performance, throughput, and reliability issues during data transfer.
17. Strongmunication skills, able to work across technical and non-technical teams.
Desirable Skills and Experience
18. Familiarity with Azure HPC, batch processing, orpute-heavy data platforms.
19. Experience working in the NHS, public sector, or highly regulated environments.
20. Experience with Azure DevOps for source control, CI/CD, and work tracking.
21. Exposure to hybrid or on-prem to cloud data transfer patterns ( Data Box, AzCopy, private links).
