We are seeking an exceptional and visible Matron for the Emergency Department (ED) to lead one of the most dynamic and high‑impact clinical areas within our Trust.
This is a pivotal leadership role at the front door of the hospital, where your influence will directly shape patient experience, safety, flow and outcomes. You will lead from the front, providing strong clinical and operational leadership in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
As ED Matron, you will be highly visible, accessible and credible, supporting staff, patients and families while driving standards, performance and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job
As Matron for the Emergency Department, you will provide senior clinical and operational leadership across ED services, ensuring safe, effective and timely care for patients.
You will:
* Be a highly visible leader within ED, accessible to patients, relatives and staff
* Lead and improve the patient journey and flow, supporting timely assessment, treatment and discharge
* Drive high standards of patient experience, dignity and compassionate care
* Support and develop senior nursing and clinical teams, building leadership capability
* Ensure the clinical environment is safe, clean and fit for purpose
* Lead on infection prevention and control standards within ED
* Oversee environmental and quality audits, ensuring actions are implemented
* Provide monthly balanced scorecard reporting, identifying risks and improvements
* Lead responses to incidents, complaints and learning to improve care
* Quality assure service changes impacting patient pathways
* Ensure effective workforce deployment, skill mix and safe staffing
* Contribute to divisional performance, operational delivery and escalation processes
You will play a key role in delivering improvements across:

Education and Qualifications
Essential
* Registered practitioner
* Evidence of further study at post registration level
* Evidence of successful management development
* Education to Masters level or equivalent experience
Experience
Essential
* Experience as a senior practitioner
* Experience of managing clinical teams and clinical risk
* Experience of managing a budget
* Awareness of role of audit and research
* Awareness of current developments in healthcare and professional nursing
Desirable
* Project management experience

* Demonstrates the multi‑disciplinary/multi agency approach to patient care. Evidence of developed change management skills
* Demonstrates effective leadership skills
