Maintenance Operative
Location: Egham
Hours: 7.30am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday
Plus participation in a 1-in-3 on-call rota (paid separately – £172 per on-call week, with additional call-out payments)
Salary: £30,000 – £31,000 per annum (DOE)
We are seeking a reliable and proactive Maintenance Operative to join our client’s Estates team. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, hands-on individual who enjoys working in a friendly, community-focused environment.
About the Role
Reporting to the Estates Manager, you will work closely with the maintenance, grounds, and housekeeping teams to support the smooth day-to-day operation of the estate. The role involves carrying out a wide range of general maintenance, minor repairs, and setup tasks across the campus.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out daily maintenance tasks logged via the Help Desk system
* Undertake minor repairs and general maintenance (e.g. furniture repairs, door handles, shelving, plumbing blockages)
* Set up rooms and spaces for meetings, events, and functions
* Move furniture and equipment across the campus as required
* Monitor communal areas and fire escape routes, reporting hazards or defects
* Escort and, where necessary, chaperone contractors on site
* Assist with deliveries, waste removal, and recycling
* Maintain a tidy, organised workshop and assist with ordering materials
* Respond promptly to urgent repairs and emergency situations
* Act as a member of the Fire Response Team
* Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota
Essential Criteria
* Experience carrying out light maintenance tasks
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Good practical skills using hand tools and basic equipment
* Awareness of Health & Safety, including manual handling
* Willingness to participate in the on-call rota
Desirable
* At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role
* Recognised trade qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3)
* Experience working in a similar environment
