To deliver high standards of nursing care to people within our specialist Eating Disorders service, in accordance with evidence based professional practice and trust policies.

To work within the multi-disciplinary team, carers, relatives, other services and agencies to promote mental health and wellbeing, independence, community inclusion and competence for all individuals.

To assist The Haldon leadership team in setting standards, promoting change, developing and maintaining safe and effective nursing practice and patient care.


Main duties of the job

* To have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Work in partnership with all health, social care professionals and other stake holders, maintaining effective communication.
* Coordinate and lead shifts.
* Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence.
* Participate in training and development of staff within the clinical environment.
* Monitoring of clinical work.
* To develop the team to maximise skills.
* To ensure the appropriate delegation of tasks taking into consideration the skills and grade of staff members.
* To utilise the electronic rostering system.
* To promote and demonstrate good practice in the management of clients with an eating disorder.
* Promote service changes with a positive and professional attitude.
* Explore innovative ways of delivering and improving patient care.
* To champion NG feeding and liaise with the RDUH for safe training provision.
* Provide supervision and appraisals for qualified staff.
* Demonstrate effective clinical leadership skills.
* Participate in the role of mentor to students.
* Participate in audits.
* Develop and empower junior staff within the team.

Job responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Communication and Working Relationship Skills

* To have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Work in partnership with all health, social care professionals and other stake holders, maintaining effective communication.
* Liaise with carers, families and user groups and representatives.
* Positive role modelling of leadership skills.

Analytical and Judgemental Skills

* Complex facts or situations, requiring analysis, interpretation, comparison of a range of options.

Planning and Organisational Skills

* Coordinate and lead shifts.
* Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence.
* Support Ward Manager to ensure service is compliant with key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to service.
* Lead and supervise others, undertake PDRs and support with absence management.
* Assist with the development and delivery and evaluation of evidence based treatments.
* Participate in training and development of staff within the clinical environment.
* Monitoring of clinical work.
* To develop the team to maximise skills.
* To ensure the appropriate delegation of tasks taking into consideration the skills and grade of staff members.
* To utilise the electronic rostering system.

Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy

* Facilitate the core teams to drive the delivery of care.
* Ensure that care plans are implemented and reviewed as part of on-going assessment.
* Ensure that robust, up to date risk assessments are carried out by the relevant staff.
* Ensure standards of care are maintained to the highest level.
* Adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct and other professional guidelines and National legislation
* To promote and demonstrate good practice in the management of clients with an eating disorder.

Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation

* To work with The Haldon Ward Manager/Deputy Ward Manager to review, update and implement standards and policies for use in adult inpatient settings as appropriate.
* Participate in on-going training and education progress.
* Keep up to date on relevant government and local policy and guidance in relation to Eating Disorders research and treatment options.
* To be aware of current initiatives in inpatient care.
* Promote service changes with a positive and professional attitude.
* Explore innovative ways of delivering and improving patient care.

Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources

* Establish an efficient working environment, making most effective planning for staffing, supplies, equipment and services.

Responsibility for Human Resources, e.g. Supervision, Training, HR Advice and Management

* Provide supervision and appraisals for qualified staff.
* Demonstrate effective clinical leadership skills.
* Participate in the role of mentor to students.
* Participate in audits.
* Develop and empower junior staff within the team.

Responsibility for Information Resources and Administrative Duties

* The post holder will ensure that clinical/care records both written and electronic are accurate and are consistent with professional and organisational requirements.
* Use necessary IMT programmes required for administration.

Responsibility for Research and Development

* Undertake surveys or audits as necessary.

Freedom to Act

* Clearly defined occupational procedures.

Any Other Specific Tasks Required

* Report any observed incident of unprofessional behaviour, accident/incident, untoward occurrence and faulty equipment immediately to the Ward Manager.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* A professional Nursing qualification Registered Nurse
* Evidence of PREP/Revalidation
* Evidence of working with people with an Eating Disorder.
* Trained in NG feeding.


Experience

* Experience post-preceptorship as a Band 5 in an inpatient setting
* Experience working within an MDT
* Supervising and assessing students in line with professional requirements
* Experience of working with those with an eating disorder
* The ability to undertake evidence based interventions for those with an eating disorder
* Knowledge of therapeutic interventions that are suitable for those with an eating disorder.
