In-Person Secondary Tutor (QTS Required) Flexible hours | Highly rewarding | Term-time only | SEN, SEMH & Mental Health Support Are you a qualified secondary teacher who wants to make a genuine difference beyond the classroom? We are seeking QTS-qualified, secondary-experienced tutors to work 1:1 with young people who are unable to attend mainstream school due to SEN, SEMH, behavioural challenges, or mental health needs. Many of these students are school-refusing or medically unable to attend, and need a calm, consistent educator to help them re-engage with learning. This is a deeply rewarding role focused on connection first, progress second. The Role You will deliver 1:1, in-person tuition to secondary-aged students (KS3-KS4), typically in the student's home or a local community setting. Sessions focus on: Core secondary subjects (English, Maths, Science), aligned to age-appropriate expectations Adapting learning for students working below or outside their chronological age Building trust, confidence, and routine alongside academic support Supporting reintegration into education where appropriate You will also: Work closely with schools, parents/carers, and external professionals Provide clear session feedback and outcome notes Tailor your approach to each learner's emotional and educational needs Hours & Flexibility Tuition usually takes place during school hours (9:00-15:00, Monday-Friday) Most students receive 6-15 hours per week Part-time and term-time only Opportunity to take on additional students if desired Who We're Looking For Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - essential Proven secondary teaching or tutoring experience Experience supporting students with SEN, SEMH, anxiety, trauma, or behavioural needs Confident working 1:1 and independently, outside of a classroom environment Calm, resilient, and adaptable approach Strong communication and relationship-building skills Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service or willingness to apply) Full UK driving licence and access to transport is often required Why This Role Matters Many of the students you'll support have been out of education for extended periods.
