Job Title – Technical Manager - Civil SME
Location – UK
Purpose of the Role:
The Technical Manager will be a key member of the Engineering Management Team, responsible for providing technical leadership and business improvement in a specific area of expertise. This role involves developing proactive relationships with various internal teams and external clients, supporting strategic engineering objectives, and driving initiatives that benefit the organization.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Drive your strategy forward, adding value to GT, and respond to business challenges requiring expert attention.
2. Provide specialist advice, control, and assurance on discipline-specific technical principles.
3. Train and develop Engineers within your discipline.
4. Communicate ideas effectively to stakeholders, clients, and colleagues, especially when implementing innovative solutions.
5. Ensure compliance with relevant standards and legislation, supporting governance and assurance.
6. Act as an internal disruptor and innovator, seeking industry-changing innovations.
7. Support consultancy development as an SME externally.
8. Interface with clients on technical leadership.
9. Assist in work-winning and develop industry-wide peer networks.
10. Maintain recognition in your area of expertise and pursue personal development.
11. Develop and manage relationships, understanding wider needs, risks, and opportunities.
12. Ensure compliance with management systems and implement Galliford Try’s strategic initiatives, including Carbon, Digital, DfMA, and Innovation strategies.
13. Promote a safe working environment, embodying Galliford Try’s values (EPIC).
About You:
1. Subject Matter Expert in an area critical to Engineering delivery or strategy.
2. Experience managing internal and external design functions.
3. Ability to engage at all business levels, promoting best practices and innovation.
4. Leadership skills in initiatives and supporting design teams.
5. Critical thinking, problem solving, and collaborative working abilities.
6. Ability to prioritize in challenging environments and manage performance.
7. Analytical skills with the ability to quickly synthesize and present information.
8. Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
9. Engineering background with understanding of multiple disciplines, preferably with Water industry experience.
10. Degree in Engineering or relevant construction/STEM qualification; professional membership is advantageous.
11. Experience with Digital Technologies and Advanced Applications in construction.
12. Good IT skills, especially in MS Excel and Word.
