ROLE SUMMARY:

Wetherby Senior School was founded in 2015 and is a member of the Inspired Education Group of Schools. There are approximately 450 boys on roll, all of whom study at least one language for 5 years and we regularly add at least 0.5 of a grade Value Added at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve grades that allow them to gain places at top UK universities such as; Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL and universities abroard such as the University of Chicago, Georgetown, Princeton, Bocconi in Milan and the IE Business School Madrid.

The Music Department at Wetherby Senior School is a vibrant, ambitious, and award-winning centre of musical activity. With a dedicated team of 15 instrumental teachers, the department offers an exciting opportunity for a skilled musician to join a thriving environment where enthusiasm, creativity, and high-quality teaching are at the heart of everything we do. Our ensembles have received national recognition, our students regularly reach the ISA Young Musician finals, and we work closely with professional orchestras through workshops and partnerships. Recent performances have taken place at the Royal Albert Hall Schools Prom, the Dorchester Hotel, Philips Auction House, and the Regent’s Park Bandstand.

We are currently seeking an experienced, committed flute teacher to join the team. This role requires availability every Friday, due to our Year 7 class-based flute programme. The successful candidate will teach whole-class Year 7 flute lessons, deliver individual flute tuition, work as an orchestral tutor, and support the Wind Band. The Friday commitment is essential to fulfilling the responsibilities of the post.

Throughout the week, the department is full of activity, with a busy schedule of lunchtime and after-school rehearsals. More than 250 individual instrumental lessons take place each week, allowing us to offer personalised and high-quality musical development to every student. Our broad and inclusive ensemble programme allows pupils to explore a wide range of styles and abilities, and includes Orchestra, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Double Bass Ensemble, Cello Ensemble, Violin Ensembles, String Ensemble, Rock Bands, Choir, Symphonic Brass, and DJ Club.

Our curriculum ensures that students are actively engaged in their musical journey. All Year 7 and 8 pupils learn a brass, string, or woodwind instrument as part of their classroom curriculum—this year, for example, five students have begun learning the double bass. By Year 9, students explore Music Technology and Music for Film, developing skills that reflect the modern music industry. Alongside academic learning, we offer enriching extracurricular opportunities including an annual music tour, Orchestral and Concert Band Education Days, and collaborative performances with other schools. We are also active within the local community, regularly taking part in events such as the Coutts Bank Christmas Festival.

The Music Department at Wetherby Senior School is dedicated to inspiring creativity, nurturing talent, and instilling a lifelong love of music. We warmly welcome passionate and motivated musicians who are eager to contribute to the continued success and energy of our department.
