This is an exciting opportunity to apply a Locum Consultant post to support the increased workload, expansion and development of the Cardiology Department at NHS Grampian. The post-holder will be joining a team of eleven Cardiologists. This post is available for a period of 6 months.
The successful applicant will be based in the Department of Cardiology, at ARI, Aberdeen. NHS Grampian serves a population of 620,000, including patients from NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland. The Department is part of the Acute Services directorate, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, NHS Grampian, Hospitals within NHS Grampian comprise Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, Woodend Hospital, Roxburghe House and Dr Grays Hospital.
The Cardiology Department provides elective and acute coronary intervention including a 24 hour primary PCI service (around 1000 PCIs performed annually), brady- and complex pacing device insertion, as well as an invasive Electrophysiology service in our two dedicated state-of–the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratories.
There is a busy Echocardiography department, performing transthoracic, transoesphageal, contrast and bubble echo, 3D echo and stress echocardiography. We have recently purchased two Philips Epiq CVx echocardiography platforms to support our advanced echo service and TAVI service and have four GE echo platforms for transthoracic echocardiography. All advanced cardiac imaging modalities are readily available on the Foresterhill site, including Coronary CT, Cardiac MRI, PET, myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, and DPD scanning for cardiac amyloid.
The in–patient Cardiac department consists of a 10 bedded Coronary Care Unit and a 30 bedded in-patient cardiology ward, both contained within the new Emergency Care Centre. There is also a 16 bedded day case ward adjacent to the Cardiac Catheterisation labs.
There will be ample opportunity to maintain and develop subspecialist skills, depending on the interest and skills of the applicant. Sub-speciality areas that would be considered are Cardiac Imaging (Echocardiography + any advanced imaging modality including Nuclear Cardiology).

Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register and have MRCP. Specialist Registrars may apply if within 6 months of CCT.
