Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Central Scotland (Glasgow / Edinburgh)
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join RSK Geosciences. Working alongside an experienced UK-wide team, you will be involved in a wide variety of geotechnical and land contamination projects covering sectors including energy infrastructure, renewable energy, development and regeneration projects, and local authorities.
Current projects include award‑winning work recognized by the Environment Analyst Brownfield Awards. RSK Geosciences has received the 2024 Ground Engineering Award for Excellence in Learning and Development.
What you can expect in this position
As a senior geotechnical engineer/engineering geologist, you’ll be responsible for leading and supervising site works for larger and more complex investigations, including managing SHEQ related matters. This role requires a proactive, detail‑oriented approach and the ability to work independently and with a wide range of stakeholders.
What you'll be doing
* Designing, managing and supervising geo‑environmental and geotechnical ground investigation projects for external clients and internal teams.
* Soil and rock logging to current geotechnical standards, including laboratory scheduling.
* Preparing health, safety, environment and quality (SHEQ) documentation in line with RSK and client requirements.
* Writing factual and interpretative reports, including desk studies for environmental and/or geotechnical purposes in line with national standards and codes of practice.
* Establishing and developing strong relationships with clients, integral to the growth of the Geosciences Scotland team and the wider business.
* Supporting tender managers in preparing fee proposals.
What we're looking for
* BSc or BEng degree in Geology (or Earth Science), Geotechnical, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related subject.
* Further post‑graduate qualification in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical desirable but not essential.
* At least five years of relevant work experience.
* Holder of a CSCS card, SMSTS advantageous.
* Willingness to spend significant time on site.
* Good knowledge of health and safety practices and CDM Regulations.
* Rock core logging capabilities advantageous but not essential.
* Registered with a suitable professional body and working toward Chartered status (e.g., Geol Soc/ICE).
* Ability to multi‑task, plan and prioritise workload for independent and team work.
* Skilled with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
* Full UK driving licence essential.
