We are currently looking to recruit a full-time experienced Medical Receptionist (job share considered) to join our small friendly city-centre GP practice.
In addition to weekday working, there might be some evening and weekend shifts on an ad hoc basis.
We expect staff to help to cover each others holiday and sickness absences so you must be flexible and available throughout the year.
Ideally, we would like someone with experience of working in a GP surgery. Experience of using EMIS Web is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
Main duties of the job
This role is to actas the main point of contact between the patient and the primary healthcareteam.
We expect teammembers to be friendly, enthusiastic, reliable and efficient individuals whocan thrive when expected to multi-task in a busy environment. It requires good IT skills, attention todetail, accuracy and above all excellent communication skills.

We are a small citycentre GP Practice with two partners, employing four part-time salaried GPs, and seek tocreate a supportive and low-stress environment that caters Monday to Friday fora patient list of about 7,000. Many, butby no means all, of our patients are members of the University and they aregenerally very pleasant, thoughtful and well-informed.
Job responsibilities
Ensuring that general enquiries are dealt with efficiently.
Arranging appointments using a computerised appointment system for patientscoming to the desk and via the telephone.
Greeting patients on arrival, booking them in and directing them towaiting area.
Taking requests by telephone for appointments and home visits quicklyand efficiently.
Directing calls to the appropriate person and taking messages anddealing with them as set out in protocols.
Advising patients of other services available (signpost).
Liaising with GPs and Nurses and other staff within the Health Centre.
Dealing with requests from clinicians as quickly and efficiently as possible,e.g. booking ambulances, telephoning patients, etc.
Dealing with eConsult requests from patients, getting them triaged andliaising with patients as necessary.
Issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with requests for prescriptionsas appropriate.
Giving results of tests to patients following the confidentiality code.
Dealing with incoming electronic mail and forwarding it to correctdestination.
Coding information into the Practice clinical system.
Filing and retrieving paperwork.
Updating patient records changes of names, addresses, telephonenumbers, etc.
Scanning & photocopying documents and ensure outgoing post is sentpromptly.
Handing out letters/ blood forms/ prescriptions/ sick notes, etc.
Advising patients who wish to register at the Practice as to the correctprocedure.
Scanning paper documents and filing them in the computerised patientsrecord.
Handling requests for information from outside agencies.
Entering the details of new registrations into the computer system fromhand written forms and electronically received forms.

Qualifications
* Good level of education to GCSE standard or equivalent including English and Maths
* An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality/ probity
* Medical Terminology knowledge
* Knowledge of handling data

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
* Able to communicate effectively and clearly
* Ability to work in methodical manner and to multi-task in a busy environment
* An enquiring mind with a willingness to learn new skills and procedures
