Specialist Medical Engineering Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Engineering Team at Macclesfield District General Hospital as a Specialist Medical Engineering Technician.

The successful candidate will possess a professional electronics qualification and will have specialist medical equipment training and experience. You will present a calm, professional approach and be competent to work as an autonomous practitioner within a team. Excellent verbal, written and IT skills are essential.

Hours: 37.5

Main duties of the job

A Specialist Medical Engineering Technician will be a self motivated member of a small team, providing a comprehensive medical equipment maintenance service, within their own specialised field.

To be expected to independently plan, schedule and implement, in liaison with the Medical Engineering Technical Manager, colleagues and clinical users, the planned maintenance and repair of specialised medial equipment.

To be responsible for performing the planned maintenance, non-routine repairs and decontamination of a wide range of medical equipment used in direct patient treatment.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Professional electronics knowledge gained to graduate level or equivalent
* Specialist knowledge acquired through postgraduate diploma


Knowledge

* Have knowledge of IEC/EN60601 & IEC/EN62353
* Have knowledge of Health and Safety, including COSHH
* Knowledge of MHRA guidance
* Knowledge of information governance within a healthcare setting


Experience

* Significant experience in medical equipment maintenance
* Working in clinical environments


Skills

* Competent and confident to work as autonomous practitioner within a team
* High professional standards
* Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills at multi-disciplinary level
* Ability to prioritise workload safely
* Must possess good IT skills
* Must possess good manual dexterity
* Must have the ability to lift, move and transport heavy equipment across the hospital site, including navigating stairs and corridors
* Must have the ability to work in awkward positions, which may require bending, stretching, and maintaining physical effort over sustained periods
* An ability to travel between various locations
