Overview
Location: Birmingham - Onsite
Position: Piping Admin/Designer
Responsibilities
* Software administration: Install, configure, and maintain piping software suites like Autodesk Plant 3D, Intergraph/Hexagon Smart 3D (S3D), and Aveva Plant.
* Project setup and management: Create and manage projects within the software, ensuring consistent settings, properties, and project naming rules.
* Catalog and specification management: Create, update, and maintain the material catalogs and piping specifications used for design. This involves managing component data and ensuring adherence to industry codes like ASME.
* Customization and automation: Customize the software with templates, reports, and productivity tools to meet specific project needs and company standards. This can include creating custom components or writing scripts.
* Technical support and training: Provide ongoing administrative and technical support to designers and engineers. This includes troubleshooting software issues, resolving user errors, and conducting user training sessions.
* Workflow and data management: Oversee project workflow, ensure data integrity, and manage data exchange with other systems. They are often involved in model reviews and coordinate with IT and other departments on integration issues.
* Standards and procedures: Develop and document standard practices and procedures for the use of piping software to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance across all design projects.
* Reporting: Configure and generate reports from the design software, such as material take-offs (MTOs), to support the project team.
Qualifications
* Education: A technical degree or associate\'s degree in an engineering design area, or a related technical field, is often required. Some positions may prefer a bachelor\'s degree.
* Experience: A minimum of 5–10 years of experience with specific piping design software (e.g., Plant 3D, Smart 3D) and a background in mechanical or piping design are typically necessary.
* Technical skills:
o Expertise in one or more piping design software applications.
o Strong knowledge of piping materials, specifications, and industry standards (e.g., ASME, API).
o Familiarity with related software, such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, and database systems like SQL.
o Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including PFDs, P&IDs, and isometrics.
* Soft skills:
o Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational abilities.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
