Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.


Role details

This is a permanent post. The shift pattern for this post is Tuesday to Friday 8:00–17:00 with a flexible working pattern plus 1:25 on-call South Glasgow rota. The post will be 34 hours per week. Please note the salary is pro rata for part-time hours.

We invite applications for a Consultant in Older Adult Psychiatry who have completed CCT or are within 6 months of doing so with Section 22 AMP status. Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council, a license to practice and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher Specialist Training leading to a CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within six months of confirmed entry at the date of interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.


Responsibilities

* Work as part of the Older Adult Community Mental Health Team, offering outpatient, inpatient and domiciliary assessment of older people with mental health problems.
* Cover an area of 5,000 patients in the community and provide inpatient responsibility for acute functional inpatients for the whole catchment area; work closely with two other 0.9 WTE consultant older adult psychiatrists based at Elderpark. There is an option for inpatient responsibilities to rotate with the other consultants.
* Be part of the South Glasgow rota on-call (1:25 at least). The on-call almost always has a second on higher trainee up to 3am each day.
* Collaborate with other professionals and agencies; participate in regular high-quality CPD and teaching, quality improvement, and robust clinical governance.
* Aim to achieve recognition of trainer status due to frequent resident doctors; engage with strong links with other South and East Renfrewshire consultant old age psychiatrists and the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Division of Old Age Psychiatry.


Qualifications

* Full GMC registration with a license to practice; eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register.
* Completed CCT or within 6 months of completion with Section 22 AMP status; evidence of higher Specialist Training or eligibility (CESR) or be within six months of confirmed entry for UK-trained applicants; equivalent training demonstrated for non-UK applicants.


Additional information

* The post includes the opportunity for 0.5 EPA for ECT at Leverndale Hospital, Glasgow.
* The post is based at Elderpark Resource Centre, Govan, Glasgow, with wards at Leverndale Hospital, South Glasgow. Elderpark Resource Centre covers a catchment of approximately 17,200 people aged over 65.
* The post covers an additional community catchment of about 5,000 patients.
