We are working in partnership with a specialist Further Education setting for young people aged 19–25 with autism and additional needs, to recruit confident and proactive Teaching Assistants.
More than a classroom role
This is not a traditional Teaching Assistant position. A key part of the role is supporting learners on a 1:1 basis in the community, helping them access work experience and build independence.
You may be:
Supporting a learner at a café or work placement
Accompanying students to local shops or community settings
Helping learners use public transport safely and confidently
Building confidence in real-world social and work environmentsThis role requires confidence, initiative, and a strong belief in every learner’s potential.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small group support across sessions
Support learners in community-based activities and work experience
Help build confidence, independence, and employability skills
Accompany learners on off-site visits and support travel training
Encourage communication and emotional regulation
Support functional skills (English, Maths, ICT) in practical ways
Build positive, trusting relationships with learners
Work closely with staff to track and support progressWhat we’re looking for
Experience supporting individuals with autism is essential
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Confidence working 1:1 and in community settings
Ability to adapt and think on your feet
Strong communication and teamwork skills
