Drainage Civil Engineer

Location: Leeds (Hybrid) or Fully Remote – UK
A busy and growing environmental and civil engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Drainage Civil Engineer to join its design team. This role offers the flexibility of hybrid working from a Leeds base or the option to work fully remote from anywhere in the UK.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior engineers and the wider design team to deliver drainage and flood risk solutions for developments across multiple sectors, including commercial development, energy infrastructure, industrial sites and environmental projects.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) to support planning applications
Production of Drainage Strategies and supporting technical reports
Design of surface water and foul water drainage systems
Collaborative working with engineers, planners, clients and third-party stakeholders to deliver compliant, cost-effective solutions
Supporting wider civil and geotechnical design work where required
Liaison with statutory bodies including local authorities, highways authorities and water companiesCandidate Profile
Proficiency in InfoDrainage / MicroDrainage or equivalent drainage design software
Strong knowledge of current UK drainage design standards and guidance
Experience in SuDS design, ideally to CIRIA C753
Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments compliant with NPPF, EA guidance and TAN15 (NRW)
Understanding of the UK regulatory and planning context for flood risk and drainage
Experience producing drainage strategies to current regulatory requirements
Previous use of GIS software
Ideally around 2+ years’ consultancy experience, though strong candidates at other levels will be considered
Desirable (but not essential): experience with 1D/2D hydraulic modelling and UK hydraulic modelling requirements
Confident communicator with strong technical report-writing skills
Ability to work both collaboratively and independentlyDesirable (Not Essential – Training Available)
Experience with software such as Plaxis 2D, Civil 3D, HEC-RAS or Flood Modeller
Knowledge of road design standards (e.g. DMRB) or broader civil engineering designWhat’s on Offer
