Based at MOD Lyneham, this role supports the Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DSEME). You will work with the Communications Manager to deliver day-to-day communications, press and public relations, driving awareness, safeguarding reputation, and ensuring clear messaging and impact.
Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver engaging communication strategies that spotlight the three units: 8 Training Battalion REME, The REME Arms School, and No 4 School of Technical Training.
* Craft compelling content and build strong relationships across DSEME, the Defence College of Technical Training, and the wider Defence community.
* Support corporate and internal communications, policy updates, announcements, and crisis communications, maintaining consistency in tone and alignment with MOD branding.
* Collaborate with the Mitie Communications Manager and unit teams to contribute to multi-channel campaigns and bring the breadth and depth of training delivery to life.
* Monitor media coverage and sentiment; use insights to inform recommendations and identify high-impact opportunities such as innovation, leadership, awards, or sporting achievements to raise unit profiles.
* Coordinate internal and external visits, liaising with media, photographers, MT, and the Mess as required.
* Support other team members and contribute to a safe working environment.
Qualifications & Requirements
* A natural storyteller with experience in PR, media relations, or communications.
* Ability to create content that resonates, turn complex ideas into engaging narratives, and demonstrate strong writing skills and judgment.
* Capability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and navigate reputational risks with clarity and confidence.
* Proactive, hands-on approach with a bias for action.
* Experience in the Defence sector is a bonus; however, the role values purpose-driven motivation to amplify the voice and reputation of the Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering.
