Kent County Council's Strengthening Independence Service is recognized for the outstanding support provided by its Social Workers, whose care and commitment shine through their work (Ofsted 2022).
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Social Worker in our Disabled Children's Team East. Our team comprises Senior Practitioners, Social Workers, Social Work Assistants, and Occupational Therapists. You will work closely with colleagues in Disabled Young People's Social Work Teams and other key agencies such as Health, Education, and the voluntary sector.
The Disabled Children's Team supports children and young people who are severely and/or profoundly disabled. On their 18th birthday, our young people transition to our partner 18 to 25 Disabled Young People's Team. The team covers Thanet, Canterbury, Herne Bay, and Whitstable areas.
We seek a flexible, highly motivated individual to carry a caseload of children in need, children in care, and, if suitably experienced, child protection cases. The team follows a care pathway approach, supporting children from initial assessment through various stages including child in need, child protection, court work, child in care, adoption, and permanency.
A high standard of written English is essential, as team members must produce quality reports and maintain accurate records. Excellent organizational, communication, and IT skills are also required.
You should demonstrate an ability to engage with children, young people, families, and carers, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. An understanding of the rewards and challenges of caring for a disabled child is desirable.
In return, you will receive support, opportunities for professional development, regular supervision, and benefits such as market premium payments (subject to eligibility), generous annual leave, and the local government pension scheme.
If you are interested in joining a friendly team in a meaningful and challenging role, we look forward to hearing from you.
