Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist - Surgery
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Therapist to assume the position of Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist within the acute surgical setting. This is an opportunity to provide leadership and drive innovation across surgical services. The primary base for this role is York, with travel to Scarborough as required.
The successful candidate will collaborate with occupational therapists and multi-professional colleagues across the Trust to maintain high standards of patient care. The post offers opportunities to shape service delivery, work within local and regional teams, and lead improvements across occupational therapy pathways in the surgical context. It also provides opportunities to develop clinical expertise in surgical services and contribute to research, dissemination, and education within their areas of clinical expertise. There is an expectation to support learning and development of other occupational therapists and multidisciplinary team members through training, supervision, and reflective practice.
Main duties of the job
* Provide visible clinical leadership for occupational therapy across the clinical service within surgical specialties, including autonomously managing a complex caseload, evaluating quality and service performance, and fostering a culture of learning and development.
* Utilise evidence-based highly specialist skills to manage a complex caseload in specialties including vascular, urology, general surgery, head and neck, ICU step-downs.
* Provide training and support to staff, patients and their carers; be resilient and able to manage and prioritise your caseload while supporting the development of the team.
* The department facilitates training of Occupational Therapy students, with staff delivering rolling training programmes for other health care professionals across the Trust.
* Be part of a supportive senior surgical therapy leadership team, including other clinical leads in physiotherapy, team manager, senior operational manager, and occupational therapy professional lead.
