Deputy Principal Cardiac Physiologist -Band 8a

This is an excellent opportunity for a current Band 8a or experienced Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist to further their career at Barts Health NHS Trust. Barts Health is the largest NHS Trust in England, encompassing four major hospitals across central and east London – St Bartholomew’s Hospital (Barts Heart Centre), The Royal London Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital and Newham University Hospital. We also provide cardiac physiology support at University College London Hospital.

We are seeking a forward-thinking, dynamic and motivated individual to support the Cardiac Science Leads in delivering efficient, innovative and high-quality services across the Electrophysiology (EP) and Cardiac Device Catheter Laboratories at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The successful applicant will have a strong background in cardiac rhythm management and will play a key role in leading clinical and operational aspects of the EP and Device Labs. The post will combine clinical and managerial responsibilities, including leading on new technologies, service efficiency projects and governance initiatives as we strive to move from ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding’.

Main duties of the job

St Bartholomew’s is a 10-lab cardiology centre, with five labs dedicated to EP and devices and five interventional labs. The department also operates six device follow-up rooms and runs one of the largest remote monitoring services in Europe. In addition, there are ten echocardiography rooms providing specialist services including stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and a significant GUCH (Grown-Up Congenital Heart) echo and EP service.

Essential criteria

1. ·BSc Clinical Physiology (or equivalent)
2. ·IBHRE/HRUK/BHRS accreditation for Cardiac Devices and/or EP
3. ·ILS
4. ·HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist or working towards HCPC registration
5. ·Leadership and managerial experience

Desirable criteria

6. ·Leadership/managerial qualification
7. ·Mentoring/coaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

8. ·At least 2 years Band 7 experience in cardiac device implantation (including pacemakers, ICDs, CRT) and electrophysiology studies
9. ·In-depth knowledge and practical experience with diagnostic and electrophysiology procedures, including catheter ablation, electrophysiology mapping, and arrhythmia management.
10. ·Experience of analysing, interpreting, and providing expert advice for a specialised service.
11. •Experience with training and supervising clinical staff in a cardiology setting.
12. ·Experience of communicating specialist information to key stakeholders including clinicians.
13. ·Strong understanding of relevant health and safety, infection control, and risk management practices in a clinical environment in device algorithms and troubleshoot management
14. ·Experience with project planning and management
