Overview
The post of Assistant Divisional Manager is a key position within the Trust's senior management structure. Reporting to the Divisional Manager, the Assistant Divisional Manager provides operational and strategic management support to the Divisional Manager, Head of Nursing and Divisional Director to assist them in the development and modernisation of Moorfields' services.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
* Effective operational management and leadership to ensure safe and high‑quality patient services.
* Strategic support for clinical, financial, HR, health and safety, risk and governance functions.
Operational and Performance Management
* Accountable for the delivery of services within available resources.
* Promote new ways of working and continuously review services to meet patient needs.
* Identify and address service pressures; plan and review action plans, policies and strategies.
* Responsible for formulation of new service developments and initiatives, including bids and business cases.
* Monitor activity levels, income and NHS plan targets, and implement improvement plans.
* Work with commissioning colleagues to ensure services are funded; analyse performance data and produce reports.
* Lead and participate in ad‑hoc project work as required.
* Project manage substantial transformation and change initiatives to improve efficiency and quality.
People Management
* Directly line‑manage senior administrator(s) within the Division and oversee HR activities such as recruitment, performance appraisal and staff development.
* Monitor workforce indicators and collaborate with HR to address concerns.
* Promote a high‑performance culture and enforce the leadership qualities framework.
* Ensure all staff meet mandatory training and quality standards.
* Provide guidance and support to line‑managed staff.
* Analyse future service activity to determine staffing mix.
Finance and Service Delivery
* Accountable to delegated budgets; manage and authorise resources.
* Validate and sign off invoices within delegated budgets.
* Assist in financial planning and investigations.
* Develop systems to maximise income and control expenditure.
* Implement cost improvement programmes (CIPs) aligned with corporate objectives.
* Identify additional income sources and efficiency savings.
* Assist planning and delivery of the capital programme.
* Lead planning and organisation of departmental service plans and business plans.
Risk, Patient Involvement & Clinical Governance
* Provide governance for the clinical and corporate framework in partnership with Head of Nursing and other leads.
* Coordinate methods for gathering patient/carer views and support participation in user strategy.
* Investigate and respond to complaints, ensuring timely and quality responses.
* Monitor incidents and risks; mitigate and escalated where appropriate.
* Conduct serious incident investigations and research to drive improvement.
* Represent the Division in Trust-wide operational groups.
* Support risk management and coordinate risk registers.
General Duties
* Comply with Health & Safety regulations and maintain a safe environment.
* Adhere to Trust information governance and DBS policies.
* Support safeguarding training and comply with infection control procedures.
