Responsibilities
Main duties of the job
We recently launched a new clinical structure and have undergone service transformation focused on governance, modernised patient pathways and innovative approaches to improve patient care. We are seeking two senior Service Leads to join the Audiology senior clinical team to provide leadership for adult and paediatric services across Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumbria, embedded in solid governance to ensure high-quality, evidence-based hearing and balance services. These posts will support the Head of Service in delivering adult and paediatric services and contribute to embedding changes to improve outcomes and patient experience.

* The postholder will be responsible for delivering direct patient care in line with service needs
* The post holder will be responsible for the clinical leadership and line management of Audiology staff working with a specific patient group and report directly to the Head of Service
* The post holder will undertake clinical supervision and training of staff
* The post holder is expected to update their own professional knowledge and ensure that staff within their team are maintaining theirs sufficient to maintaining registration
* The post holder will be responsible for the management of their specific service area in conjunction with the Head of Service who maintains accountability
* The post holder will be responsible for the delivery, evaluation and development of relevant scientific, rehabilitative and support services
* The post holder will be expected to deliver the highest standards of quality and safety for audiology patients in line with national and regional standards and guidelines
* The post holder will be responsible for ensuring clinical governance is implemented and managed across a specific patient group within the Audiology Service
* The post holder will have highly developed and specialist knowledge over a range of procedures and practices
* The post holder will work alongside the Head of Service, Operational Management and the Clinical Director for ENT to ensure continuity of safe and effective care
* The post holder will deliver and monitor the service against KPIs as directed by the Head of Service / Associate Director of Operations
* The post holder will work with the department senior leadership team to achieve UKAS accreditation
* The post holder will contribute to research, collaborating with other colleagues within the organisation
* The post holder will undertake any other duties reasonably required
Qualifications and experience
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
Essential
* BSc or equivalent in Audiology
* Post-graduate qualification to Masters' level (MSc in Audiology, M level qualification or equivalent)
* Registered with either the AHCS as an Audiologist, or HCPC as a Clinical Scientist
* Management or leadership qualification or evidence of equivalent level CPD in this area
* Evidence of appropriate continuous professional and personal development
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
* Significant experience in relevant areas of audiological assessment and management of adults / children of all ages
* Significant post registration experience in a senior audiologist role with evidence of management of complex caseloads and continuous service improvement
* Experience of supervision and teaching
* Experience of clinical service development
* Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policies or project specific policy context
* Can demonstrate an understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding pathways
Skills & Abilities
Essential
* Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills to include ability to communicate and make shared decisions with the hearing impaired, and patients and carers who may be emotional and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including staff
* Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write high quality reports for different audiences, and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
* Ability to communicate & develop pathways with a wide range of agencies, e.g. education, health, social work and the voluntary/user sector.
* Ability to make decisions involving complex factors which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options
* Frequent requirement of intense prolonged concentration in both clinical and managerial roles
* Good level of IT skills to include word processing, use of spreadsheets and databases
* Ability to cope with decision making under pressure
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft office
