St Luke’s Hospice is renowned for compassionate, high-quality palliative care, supporting individuals living with life-limiting illnesses. Our multidisciplinary team works with patients and families, ensuring comfort, dignity, and choice in both hospice and community settings. About the Role This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated, knowledgeable, and proactive individual with a passion for teaching and professional development to join our growing education team as a Practice Education Facilitator. You will support the delivery and coordination of effective education, training, and clinical practice development for employees, students, and volunteers, underpinning the delivery of outstanding palliative and end of life care at St Luke’s Hospice. The Practice Education Facilitator will play a central role in developing clinical competence, enhancing learning environments, and promoting evidence-based practice. You will collaborate with internal and external partners, including universities and other community partners in Mid and South Essex, to provide high-quality learning and assessment experiences across our care services. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Plan, deliver, and evaluate education, training, and continuous professional development initiatives for clinical teams, students, and volunteers. Act as a role model and mentor within the workplace, fostering a positive learning culture and supporting the induction, supervision, and assessment of learners. Identify and respond to learning and development needs through engagement with teams, audits, feedback, and evolving best practice in palliative care. Develop and deliver teaching sessions, clinical skills training, and competency assessments, both in-person and through virtual learning platforms. Work collaboratively with academic and clinical partners to coordinate high-quality student placements, ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards. Contribute to curriculum development, evaluation, and quality assurance processes for internal and partnership education programmes. Promote the implementation of innovation, and evidence-based practice within daily clinical activity. Support quality improvement, audit, and service development projects, contributing to excellence in patient care and the employee experience. Champion the values of St Luke’s Hospice, ensuring inclusive, person-centred education for all learners. Salary, Contract, and Working Hours: Salary: £31,867 to £40,465 per year (Full time equivalent: £37,009 to £47,756 per year) Contract: Permanent, Part Time Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, delivering training and education on-site Location: Thurrock Hospice and Basildon Hospice, delivering education across the community in care homes/nursing homes and other care settings in Essex. Essential Criteria – Skills and Experience Professional health or social care qualification and current registration (NMC, HCPC, or equivalent). Substantial clinical experience within a palliative, end of life, or related health or social care setting. Passion for and experience in teaching, mentoring, or supporting learners or employee development in a clinical environment. Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills with the ability to tailor approaches to a diverse audience. Commitment to inclusive education, continuous improvement, and the promotion of equity, diversity, and accessibility. Strong organisational, IT, and time management skills, with a flexible and proactive attitude to service needs and opportunities for innovation. Car driver with driving licence and appropriate business insurance. Desirable - Experience and Qualities Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to work towards obtaining one. Experience of collaborating with higher education institutions or other training providers. Involvement in audit, quality improvement, or research activities. Competence in using digital learning platforms, e-learning, and virtual meeting technology Personal Attributes Inspirational educator, with enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and enabling others to develop their potential.
