Overview
LUHFT invites applications for this part-time (0.6 WTE) Consultant in Restorative Dentistry post, based at Liverpool Dental Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic clinician to strengthen our Restorative Dentistry Service in Merseyside. The successful candidate will contribute to the general restorative diagnostic service as well as providing high-level specialist care in the operative management of a wide range of patients including those with hypodontia, disorders of dental development and head & neck cancer. Experience in multi-disciplinary treatment planning, implant planning, implant based treatments and the delivery of clinical dental education are expected.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the general restorative diagnostic service and provide high-level specialist care in the operative management of a wide range of patients including those with hypodontia, disorders of dental development and head & neck cancer.
* Conduct new patient and treatment activity, help maintain the Departmental patient target activities and provide consultant cover as and when necessary.
* Adopt an innovative approach to patient care, teaching and management.
* Work under the line management of the Divisional Medical Director of Liverpool University Dental Hospital and closely with the Specialty Lead for Restorative Dentistry.
* Be involved in teaching and training of dental core trainees, specialty registrars and post-CCST trainees; teach undergraduate and postgraduate students where appropriate.
* Liaise with dental & medical colleagues in other specialties at LUDH and LUHFT; foster relationships between the Dental Hospital and General Dental Practitioners, Community Dental Services and other health care providers.
* Engage in continuing dental education meetings, quality improvement initiatives and work within the Trust’s Clinical Governance frameworks.
* Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical and dental activity locally and nationally.
* Engage in their own continuing professional development and provide continuing dental education for other staff.
Qualifications and Experience
* Post holder is expected to have a high level of knowledge and expertise in Restorative Dentistry with sub-specialty interests in areas such as management of facial pain, complex removable prosthodontics, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, dental materials science.
* Experience in multi-disciplinary treatment planning, implant planning, implant based treatments and the delivery of clinical dental education.
* Interest in specialty areas including endodontics, periodontology, toothwear, oncology, implant rehabilitation, hypodontia, xerostomia, fixed prosthodontics, cleft lip and palate and sleep medicine.
* Experience in teaching and training of dental core trainees, specialty registrars and post-CCST trainees.
* Involvement with postgraduate students training in Endodontics.
Department and Resources
The department is supported by in-house laboratories for removable and fixed prosthodontics with close co-operation for complex technical work. In-house intra-oral scanning and digital production laboratory processes are under development. A part-time dental hygienist and dental therapist support the work of the department.

Additional Information
There may be opportunities to be involved in the teaching of undergraduates and postgraduate students. The post holder is responsible to the School to discharge such duties, with the award of the appropriate University of Liverpool honorary contract. The post holder will help to foster good relationships between the Dental Hospital and General Dental Practitioners, Community Dental Services and other health care providers. The post-holder will be expected to participate in continuing dental education meetings and in quality improvement initiatives and is expected to work within the Trust’s Clinical Governance frameworks. The post holder will have responsibility for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical and dental activity, locally and nationally. The post holder will be expected to engage in their own continuing professional development and to provide continuing dental education for other staff.
