Reporting to the Legal & Compliance Director, you'll act as a senior strategic partner to the wider business and help support the day-to-day operation of the legal function alongside fellow senior legal colleagues.
This is a broad and commercially focused in-house role, supporting multiple business units across Flogas Britain, Certas Energy and our EMS businesses.
You'll provide trusted legal, regulatory and compliance advice across a wide range of operational and strategic matters, helping the business navigate an increasingly complex and regulated landscape while supporting continued commercial growth and operational excellence.
This role offers exposure across commercial contracting, compliance, governance, regulatory engagement, M&A activity, property portfolio matters and legal transformation initiatives.You'll also play an important role in supporting junior legal colleagues, improving legal processes and contributing to the continued adoption of legal technology and modern ways of working.
What you'll be doing
Strategic legal supportSupporting the day-to-day operation of the legal function alongside other Senior Legal Counsel colleaguesDeputising for the Legal & Compliance Director where requiredProviding practical and commercially focused legal advice to senior stakeholders across multiple business areasTriaging legal matters and supporting escalation of strategic or complex legal risksSupporting alignment of legal and compliance activity with wider DCC Group strategy
Contract and commercial oversightDrafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of complex commercial agreementsSupporting M&A activity alongside external legal advisorsManaging disputes and external counsel relationshipsSupporting property and estates matters including leases, renewals and licencesDeveloping and maintaining legal templates, playbooks and contract processesSupporting the continued development of legal technology and contract lifecycle management tools
Compliance, governance and regulationSupporting and maintaining a robust compliance framework aligned to Group standardsPartnering with Risk, Assurance and HSEQ teams on governance and regulatory mattersSupporting incident response and interpretation of relevant legislationEngaging with regulatory bodies including the CMA, ICO, HSE, FCA, OTC and Trading StandardsSupporting governance processes and legal integrity across business structures and decision making
Leadership and collaborationMentoring and supporting junior legal team membersDelivering practical legal and compliance training across the businessPromoting collaborative and effective ways of workingSupporting a culture of integrity, accountability and continuous improvement
We're looking for an experienced legal professional who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness and the ability to build trusted relationships across a complex organisation.You'll bring:
Qualification as a solicitor or barrister in England & WalesTypically 6-10 years' post-qualification experience, including experience in a senior legal roleStrong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contractsBroad legal and compliance experience across corporate, regulatory and operational mattersThe ability to manage complex legal issues across multiple business areas and regulated sectorsStrong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skillsA practical and solutions-focused approach to problem solvingThe ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment
Experience within energy, utilities, infrastructure or other regulated sectors would be beneficial, but isn't essential.
Experience with legal technology, contract lifecycle management systems or process optimisation initiatives would also be beneficial.
