About the Role
As a Laboratory Assistant, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day operations of our busy lab. From handling patient samples and booking test requests to supporting scientific staff with technical tasks, your contribution will help ensure accurate and timely diagnostics for patients across the healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities
Reception & Specimen Handling
1. Book patient details and test requests into the pathology system
2. Receive and prepare specimens for testing
3. Handle enquiries from healthcare professionals and patients
4. Provide authorised results and manage departmental communications
Laboratory Support
5. Prepare reagents and safely dispose of hazardous waste
6. Maintain lab cleanliness and equipment
7. Monitor and replenish stock levels
Scientific & Technical Assistance
8. Prepare samples and assist with automated analysis
9. Enter test results and support quality control processes
10. Participate in equipment evaluations and accreditation documentation
What We’re Looking For
11. UK Proven lab experience ideally within sample reception
12. Biomedical science degree or similar
13. A methodical and reliable approach to work
14. Excellent attention to detail
15. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
16. Ability to follow protocols and work as part of a team
17. Willingness to work flexible hours, including unsocial shifts
