SupervisorSalary: NJC Scales SO1 (Points 23–25), £33,366 - £35,235 per annum
Hours: Full-time - 37 hours.
Working Days: Saturday to Wednesday
Location: Prism City Farm, Walker Drive, Girlington, BD8 9EZ
Annual Leave: 30 days - To be taken during term time only, expected to work public holidays.
Job Purpose: To manage and supervise all aspects of the farm's land-based operations, ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of livestock and land. The Farm Supervisor will lead and coordinate land-based staff, oversee volunteer and youth engagement, and collaborate with funders and community stakeholders to deliver public-facing farm projects, including weekend and evening events.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
* Supervise and support all land-based staff to ensure the smooth daily operation of the farm.
* Oversee the care, health, and welfare of animals, ensuring high standards of husbandry.
* Manage maintenance and development of land, buildings, fencing, and farm infrastructure.
* Ensure the security and cleanliness of the site and its facilities at all times.
Health & Safety
* Act as the responsible person for all on-site health and safety matters.
* Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation.
* Maintain accurate records for accidents, incidents, and safety checks.
Community Engagement & Project Delivery
* Work in partnership with funders and local stakeholders to deliver funded farm projects.
* Coordinate and support weekend and evening activities, including public events and open days.
* Engage young people and volunteers in practical, land-based learning and development activities.
* Ensure safeguarding procedures are implemented and adhered to.
Leadership & Administration
* Line manage land-based staff and coordinate their work schedules.
* Provide supervision, training, and development opportunities to staff and volunteers.
* Contribute to budget planning, stock control, and resource management.
* Prepare reports, updates, and evaluations for stakeholders and funders.
Person SpecificationEssential
* Significant experience in managing a working farm or land-based facility.
* Demonstrated experience in animal husbandry and land maintenance.
* Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
* Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and procedures.
* Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
* Ability to work weekends and evenings consistently as part of the role.
* Proven ability to engage and work with young people from diverse backgrounds.
* Experience working with community projects or public engagement.
* IT literate and able to manage basic administrative and reporting tasks.
Desirable
* Relevant qualifications in animal care, agriculture, or land-based studies.
* First aid and/or health and safety training certification.
* Safeguarding training and experience working in youth or educational settings.
* Knowledge of sustainability, conservation or horticulture.
Additional Information
* The post holder must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
* The role includes outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
