EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Business Development: Bids Manager (Government) is an integral part of the Strategy and Business Development team within STS. The role involves identifying, developing, and securing new business, driving company growth.
You’ll be responsible for managing major bid opportunities, engaging with potential customers and colleagues, and overseeing the bid development process to produce high-quality, winning proposals. This includes coordinating cross-functional teams, ensuring compliance with client requirements, and conducting business development activities to secure tenders and frameworks.
You’ll play a key role in securing new business and driving growth, requiring a flexible, motivated, and collaborative individual capable of leading teams to success.
The key responsibilities include:
1. Business Development
* Proactively engaging in activities to identify opportunities aligned with STS growth strategy and building relationships with potential clients and industry partners.
* Conducting market research to identify upcoming frameworks and opportunities.
* Attending industry events, trade shows, and networking meetings to promote the company’s capabilities.
1. Bids Management
* Leading the end-to-end bid development process from opportunity identification to proposal submission.
* Formulating strategies for bidding, identifying success factors, and ensuring proposals meet client needs while mitigating risks.
* Building and maintaining a repository of frameworks, bid content, templates, and graphics.
* Maintaining comprehensive bid documentation, providing post-submission support, and managing subsequent actions.
1. Coordination and Collaboration
* Working closely with the Business Development team to understand client requirements and market positioning.
* Coordinating with Business Units for commercial evaluation, operational input, and governance compliance.
* Facilitating proposal review meetings and incorporating feedback.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
Successful candidates will have significant bid management experience, especially with large government tenders for complex projects or contracts. You should have a proven track record in developing winning proposals and understanding the bid lifecycle and proposal writing.
Project management experience is essential, with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple demands.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are crucial for engaging at all levels and presenting complex information persuasively.
An awareness of the external marketplace, the ability to represent the company credibly, and high attention to detail are also important. Experience in operations or engineering within the utilities sector, water and wastewater industry, and government tenders is beneficial.
As travel is required, a full UK driving license is necessary.
