Key Responsibilities
* Promote high standards of specialist care for patients with a haematological malignancy, ensuring a quality experience.
* Provide specialist support and care to patients admitted with complications of their cancer treatment.
* Work autonomously to support patients with a haematological malignancy, facilitating necessary investigations and providing clinical engagement and support for patients receiving SACT.
* Deliver HNA and treatment summary clinics for all patients.
* Serve as a resource both within the trust and the community for clinical advice and information.
* Contribute to clinical governance within the trust for haematology patients.
* Deliver care in line with National and Alliance guidance and requirements.
* Support the development of the band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist.
* Plan, deliver and evaluate programmes to address patients' complex health needs.
* Initiate and promote collaborative working relationships and effective communication between all members of the MDT to improve the management and outcomes of patients within the specialist area.
* Discuss investigations and treatment for cancer with sensitivity, knowledge and expertise.
* Attend MDT and consultant ward rounds.
* Deliver clinical care and management in line with local and national guidance and best practice.
About the Team
The Haematology team is seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about nursing and has solid experience to support malignant and some non‑malignant haematology conditions. The post holder will work with five haematologists, CNS and cancer support worker colleagues. Possessing strong communication skills, they will support our shared patients with the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre and other tertiary centres, and provide advice and guidance to primary health providers.
Role Expectations
Applicants will have the ability to work autonomously, possess a flexible approach, and counsel patients with new diagnoses or progression. This role oversees the first point of contact for all haematology on‑treatment patients, providing support to prevent deterioration and coordinating hospital admissions. It requires confidence in emergency and non‑emergency care, strong leadership skills, experience in SACT & nurse‑led clinics, and role modelling for junior staff.
Location & Working Pattern
This full‑time role is based at Ashford Hospital, with travel to St Peters for inpatient reviews. The post offers a unique opportunity to develop and deliver expert clinical and managerial nursing within a highly skilled team, providing expert care within the cancer services team.
