About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Solicitor (0–2 years’ PQE) to join our growing Wills, Trusts & Probate department. We specialise in all aspects of private client work including will drafting, trusts, lasting powers of attorney, deputyship applications, contentious probate and estate administration.
As part of our commitment to growing talent within the department, we are committed to investing in our junior solicitors and supporting them in undertaking STEP accreditation, funded by the firm. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their expertise and progress within a supportive and highly experienced team.
Main Responsibilities
• Running your own private client caseload with appropriate supervision
• Drafting basic wills and wills including simple trusts
• Preparing and registering LPAs
• Deputyship applications under the Mental Capacity Act
• Probate and estate administration from initial instructions to completion including:
– taking initial instructions
- valuing estates
– completing IHT400 forms and schedules
– applying for the grant of probate
– encashing and distributing assets
– drafting estate accounts
• Liaising empathetically with clients and their families
• Supporting the team with broader department and firm initiatives (articles, business development etc.)

• Strong legal knowledge and analytical skills
• Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently with sound judgment
• Organised, proactive and detail-focused
• High quality written work and ability to explain legal matters clearly
• Able to handle sensitive and emotional situations with empathy
• Confident with IT systems including MS Office
Person Specification
Essential
• Valid right to work in the UK
• Current practising certificate
• 0–2 years’ PQE in private client work
• Minimum of 6-12 months practical experience of the probate process
Preferable
• Demonstrable ability to work independently across wills, LPAs and probate matters
Employment Terms
Responsible to: The Directors
Salary: £38,000 – £45,000 (depending on experience and level of qualification) + entry to quarterly bonus scheme
Pension: Enrolment into GN Law’s pension scheme
Contract: Permanent, subject to 6-month probation
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Base: GN Law office, Lodge Lane, North Finchley (hybrid-working available)
Annual leave: 25 days (plus public holidays)
Maternity/shared parental leave: Enhanced package available
Notice period: 3 months following probation
