Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Product/Business Development Engineer role based in Ballymena. The role involves identifying new business opportunities within structural steel, architectural metalwork, and cladding projects, and developing technical proposals and quotations in response to client inquiries. The Product/Business Development Engineer will collaborate with internal design, fabrication, and installation teams to translate client requirements into practical, cost-effective solutions. Daily responsibilities include meeting or communicating with existing and potential clients, preparing technical documentation and tender submissions, and supporting project handover from sales to operations. The role also requires monitoring market trends, maintaining accurate records in CRM or internal systems, and contributing to continuous improvement in products, services, and processes.
* Strong technical background in structural engineering, mechanical engineering, construction, or a related discipline, with the ability to interpret drawings and specifications for steel, metalwork, and cladding.
* Experience in business development, account management, or technical sales within construction, fabrication, or engineering environments.
* Proficiency in preparing estimates, quotes, and technical proposals, including basic cost analysis and margin calculations.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
* Good organizational and time-management abilities, including managing multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
* Comfort with digital tools such as email, spreadsheets, basic CRM or project-tracking software; familiarity with CAD or similar design tools is an advantage.
* Relevant qualification (e.g., degree or higher-level vocational qualification) in engineering, construction, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
* Knowledge of industry standards, installation practices, and health and safety considerations for structural steel and metalwork; familiarity with Northern Ireland and UK construction practices is beneficial.
* Self-motivated, proactive approach with a focus on quality, safety, and long-term customer partnerships.
