GENITOURINARY MEDICINE
The South Trust’s Genitourinary Medicine Service is currently provided by 2 medical Consultants (Dr McCarty & Dr Megarity), specialty doctor sessions and a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist. It is based at the John Mitchel Place, Newry in addition to satellite clinics in Portadown Health Centre and Craigavon Area Hospital. The service has approximately 4000 outpatient attendances annually.
Workload
The GUM service within SHSCT provides approximately 4000 outpatient attendances per year. The HIV service provides outpatient care to approximately 150 people living with HIV.
Staffing
Staffing in the service includes 2 consultants (1.3 WTE), 2 part-time SAS doctors and a Band 7 clinical nurse (1 WTE). Support is provided by a Clinic Sister, Band 5 nurse, Band 6 nurse and Band 3 HCSW and Health adviser team.
Duties of the Post
The prime responsibility of the post holder will be to provide 5 outpatient GUM/HIV clinics in the Southern Trust. Appropriate training will be provided as required. The successful applicant will have continuing clinical responsibility for outpatient care.
* Provide 5 outpatient GUM/HIV clinics per week in SHSCT under consultant (on or off site) supervision.
* Contribute to the development of outpatient services and regional GUM Services.
* Participate in multi-professional meetings with nursing staff, a pharmacist and health adviser to facilitate patient management.
Office accommodation with other medical colleagues, including IT facilities and secretarial support will be provided.
