Overview
The Environment Agency protects and enhances the environment, with a focus on water quality and the availability of clean water for drinking, recreation, industry and health. This role supports Water Quality activities related to Bathing Waters, advising water companies on their plans and helping ensure protection of the water environment now and for the future.
What you will do
* Work alongside Water Quality Officers to establish and embed Bathing Waters work within our teams and support the Operational community of practice to fulfil its responsibilities.
* Assess Water Company proposals to meet bathing water standards and develop innovative methods to achieve this.
* Collaborate with Environment Agency teams (e.g., Local Area Integrated Environmental Planning and National Water Quality Guidance Teams) and engage water companies and external stakeholders to achieve Bathing Waters outcomes.
* Respond to incidents as part of an on-call/incorporated incident role; training is provided and additional payment may apply.
Team and location
Part of Operations Catchment Services, within the Water Quality team. The team works across the organisation with a flexible, dispersed structure; travel and occasional face-to-face meetings may be required. Training and mentoring support are provided.
Essential qualifications and experience
* Knowledge of water quality planning, bathing water regulations, understanding of the water industry and price review processes.
* Excellent communication and networking skills to engage with Environment Agency colleagues and external stakeholders.
* Ability to analyse technical information and present it to diverse audiences.
* Strong organisational skills to plan, track, deliver and evaluate work to meet standards and timescales.
* Work experience in an environmental discipline (e.g., water companies, environmental consultancies, regulatory roles, research/education, or environmental charities).
Desirable qualifications
* Degree or postgraduate qualification in an environmental discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Ecology, Environmental science, Sustainability, Data science and analytics).
* Experience in water quality modelling.
