It encompasses the time-honored virtue of hospitality or, to put it in Greek, philoxenia.POSITION OVERVIEWThe primary responsibilities of Captain/Head Waiter are to exemplify uncompromising hospitality, providing our guests with the finest food and beverages, accompanied by courteous, efficient and knowledgeable service to guests throughout their dining experiencePRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESSupport the Restaurant management team in the development and training of waiters according to yearly training plan and as requiredCoach waiters to develop their skills and maximize their performanceGive clear direction and guidelines to waitersAttend mandatory pre-shift briefings, line up before serviceArrive to work on time for shiftEnsure that tables are set to standardsMaintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform while workingPresent menus to customers and answer questions about menu items, making recommendationsInform customers of the specialsExplain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods (grilled, salt baked, pan-friedEnsure orders are entered correctly on POS (Point of Sales) and orders delivered on timeEnsure food presentation is up to par before serving itServe food or beverages for guests: prepare and serve special dishes at the table if requiredAssure needs of guests are continually being met in a courteous and professional manner throughout the duration of their visitCheck with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problemsCheck customer personal ID in order to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beveragesMaintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all timesPrepare checks that itemize and total meals costs and sales taxes, present, accept payments and provide change or credit card receipts. Follow appropriate accounting procedures for closing checksKeep waiter stations organized, clean set up and take down stations appropriatelyRemove dishes and glasses from tables or counters and take them to the kitchen for cleaningMay be asked to perform side work such as the following: stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware and linersPerform miscellaneous job-related duties as assignedBusiness ManagementAware of department targets and objectives, and to strive for their achievement. Some college preferredAt least 2-3 years of experience in a related field, preferably in hotels or restaurantsMust be able to convey information and ideas clearlyAbility to display warmth and hospitalityFlexible and long hours sometimes requiredAbility to stand during the entire shiftExerting up to 25kgs of force occasionally, and / or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objectsKnowledge POS systems is a plusKnowledge of Greek cuisine is a plusApplicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK, without restrictions.
