Job Title: Assistant Accountant Location: Altrincham Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 per annum Hours: 37 hours per week Contract: Permanent, Full-time, fully office based An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join a long-established legal firm based in Altrincham. This key role supports the smooth running of the organisation's financial operations and ensures full compliance with legal accounting standards. The position is ideal for someone with experience in the legal sector or wider professional services who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-focused environment. Working closely with fee earners, management, and wider support teams, you'll play an integral part in daily banking, reconciliations, reporting, and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities: Complete daily banking duties and bank reconciliations. Issue and post cheques. Manage all accounts posting and assist with month-end routines and reporting. Prepare VAT and PAYE returns. Oversee payroll and purchase ledger processes. Download and post daily bank statement entries. Maintain and utilise online banking systems effectively. Input and monitor legal aid claims (where applicable). Work with legal case management systems such as Eclipse Proclaim or similar. Provide financial support to fee earners and management teams. Ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SRA). About You: Experience in a Legal Cashier, Legal Accounts Clerk, Finance Assistant, or similar role. Background in legal or wider professional services. Highly accurate with strong attention to detail. Knowledge of legal accounting systems and SRA regulations. Able to work independently and collaboratively. Organised, proactive, and confident in managing competing priorities. Strong communication skills and a supportive, team-oriented approach.
