Job Title: Teacher of English

Actual Annual Salary: £32,916 - £51,048 (MP1 to UPS3)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time, 32.5 hours per week

Additional role info: Working Pattern - Monday to Friday

Provisional Start Date: 01 September 2026

About you

* a qualified teacher (QTS or equivalent) with excellent subject knowledge.
* able to plan and deliver consistently high-quality, well-structured lessons across relevant key stages, promoting strong progress and outcomes.
* skilled in adapting teaching to meet the needs of all learners, including pupil premium, looked after children, SEND and high-attaining students.
* a strong communicator who builds positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues and parents/carers, and contributes positively to the wider life of the school.
* committed to high expectations of behaviour, learning and achievement, creating a safe and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect.
* proactive in contributing beyond the classroom, supporting enrichment opportunities and the wider curriculum.
* reflective and motivated to continually develop your own practice while supporting and influencing the development of others.
* highly competent in all elements of the Teachers’ Standards, with a sustained and substantial contribution expected at Upper Pay Scale.

Monkton Wood Academy is an 11‑18 school located in Monkton Heathfield, near Taunton. We are currently going through a period of change and rapid improvement as we seek to make Monkton Wood a place of academic excellence, where children can progress and thrive. We are developing a culture of high expectations and mutual respect, where students and staff can be successful in our roles and become the best possible version of ourselves.
