Campaigns Manager / Senior Campaigns Manager (Publicity) (12-month-FTC)
What was the last book you couldn't ignore? Did you hear the author on the radio on your way to work, see a bold opinion piece everyone was sharing, or watch an interview that made you immediately want to read more?
At Penguin General, we create those moments - thoughtfully, strategically, and always with readers in mind.
Penguin General is one of the publishing houses at Penguin Random House, UK. Rooted in Allen Lane's original vision of carefully chosen books for a broad readership, it brings together the imprints Viking, Hamish Hamilton, Fig Tree, Penguin Life and Sandycove. Our frontlist ranges wide, our backlist is deep, and our focus is simple: outstanding writing that connects and endures. Authors are at the heart of what we do, readers are our lifeblood - and no book is complete without finding its audience.
Our Communications team works across publicity, marketing and digital in an integrated way. We deliver audience-led campaigns for some of the most influential voices in publishing today - from Elif Shafak, Arundhati Roy and Bernardine Evaristo to Emily Henry, Richard Osman, Dr Rangan Chatterjee and Ben Macintyre. We start with readers, stay alert to cultural conversation, and focus on impact. Every book needs something slightly different from us - our role is to decide how best to give it lift.
We're looking for a Campaigns Manager or Senior Campaigns Manager (Publicity) for a fixed term contract of 12 months to cover a period of parental leave, to join our team and lead ambitious, sales-driving PR campaigns.
The role
This is a specialist publicity role working across our imprints and fiction and non-fiction publishing. You will devise and deliver creative, strategic PR campaigns that cut through - securing impactful coverage across print, broadcast, online and live events, always with sales and readership in mind.
You will work closely with authors, immersing yourself in their books and understanding their intentions in writing them. From that foundation, you will shape campaigns that honour the work while connecting it to the widest possible readership.
You will define a clear launch approach for each book, thinking carefully about audience and timing before activity, and ensuring every tactic serves the strategy.
Depending on experience, you'll join at Manager or Senior Manager level. At Senior level, you'll lead on higher profile campaigns, operate with greater autonomy, lead campaign teams and help mentor junior colleagues in strategic thinking.
* Create and drive standout publicity campaigns from strategy to execution
* Define clear campaign objectives rooted in audience insight
* Secure high-impact interviews, features, reviews and broadcast opportunities
* Craft sharp, persuasive pitches and press materials
* Build strong relationships with journalists, producers and festival programmers
* Work collaboratively with authors, providing thoughtful guidance and exceptional author care
* Collaborate with editorial, marketing, sales and rights to align campaigns with publishing objectives
* Plan and attend events, launches, festivals and press tours (including some evenings and weekends)
* Manage budgets thoughtfully and assess campaign effectiveness
What You'll Bring
You're a strategic, creative publicist with a strong instinct for what will cut through - and why. You understand how publicity drives sales, and you focus on the activity that will have the greatest impact.
You build trusted relationships with authors and colleagues, communicate with clarity and confidence, and remain calm when juggling multiple campaigns. You're resilient in pursuing competitive opportunities and thoughtful in how you represent both your authors and the Penguin General list.
At Senior level, you bring the confidence to lead high-profile campaigns independently and support the development of others.
