Please note: This is a fixed term post for 12 Months.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Joint Health Improvement Team for a fixed-term Breastfeeding Project Support Coordinator.

The project support coordinator will sit within the Children & Young People Team and have responsibility for the development of supporting the Breastfeeding in the Community project. They will work with key agencies and partners such as early learning/years settings to provide guidance, encouragement, advice, and support the application process to achieve the Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland Early Learning Scheme.

The post holder will establish and embed implementation processes. These include maintenance of a local database; monitoring the progress of participating early learning centres with designated champions, numbers of staff who have completed online training, and establishments who have completed certification.

This role requires a person-centred friendly manner and the ability to engage with a range of partners including families, health professionals, and early years staff to develop and maintain Breastfeeding support in Borders and contribute to related activities aimed at promoting the uptake and continuation rates for breastfeeding with a focus on populations of low uptake.

Applicants should be educated to Degree level and hold a postgraduate diploma in a health-related discipline or have a significant level of experience working in a relevant, specific topic, setting, and skill-based health improvement arena. Experience of project planning, management, and implementation is required.

Post holders are not required to undertake Exposure Prone Procedures (EPP).

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
