NIHR GOSH Clinical Research Facility Patient Public Involvement and Engagement Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Patient Public Involvement & Engagement Manager to join our dynamic team research team within Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) working alongside the team based in the NIHR Clinical Research Facility(CRF).
The NIHR CRF is a state of the art, purpose-built facility which provides specialist day care accommodation for children and young people taking part in clinical research studies.
This is an exciting time to join the NIHR GOSH CRF team to lead on the implementation of our five-year Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Strategy for research and be part of an enthusiastic and driven team who will be key to ensuring that patients and their families’ experience is taken into account whilst participating in research.
The NIHR CRF is available to all GOSH and UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health staff undertaking clinical research, in particular early phase and experimental medicine trials.
The NIHR GOSH CRF PPIE Manager will work closely with both CRF Directors, Associate Chief Nurse & Patient Experience and Head of Clinical Research Operations to develop and deliver the five-year PPIE strategy for the NIHR GOSH CRF.
Main duties of the job
They will work on developing and championing the involvement and engagement of patients, their families and the public within the CRF ensuring PPIE continues to inform all aspects of our research activity and raising its profile and understanding.
The role will entail interacting with patients and members of the public drawing on experienced facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills.
The role will support and maintain external and internal communication to promote and support patient and public involvement and to raise awareness of early-phase research.
The post holder will be a senior member of the NIHR GOSH CRF leadership team and will be expected to be self-motivated, work autonomously, flexibly and in teams.

You must have effective organizational skills and be looking for a new and exciting challenge. You should demonstrate the ability to manage own workload and to work as part of a team.

Essential criteria
* Proven experience in leading PPIE underpinned by theory and demonstrable practice in managing risks and safeguards
* Demonstrable experience of working with children, young people and families and/or NHS patients
* Experience of establishing, chairing and/or facilitating meetings and focus groups, including those with children and young people and families
* Experience of collaborating and co producing with internal and external stakeholders
* Experience of running and leading training programmes and events
* Experience of project management
* Excellent knowledge of children and young people’s issues in relation to healthcare research or other relevant subjects
* Demonstrate a strong understanding of multidisciplinary issues, research collaborations and networking
Desirable criteria
* Post qualification research experience in medical / clinical research environment
* Experience of budget management
* Experience of writing / contributing to grant applications
* Experience of supervising volunteers
* Excellent understanding of the research environment
* Knowledge of research methodologies
* Knowledge of research governance, including legal requirements relating to research
* Familiarity with medical / scientific terminology

* Excellent organisational skills with an ability to multi-task, meet internal and external deadlines and manage a large and changing workload

* Proven interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with children, young people and families as well as with senior clinical and academic staff
* Good understanding of creative, inclusive and appropriate methods for involving and facilitating diverse groups of people
* Ability to present to senior management committees, external organisations and lead discussions with research teams
* Ability to work autonomously and flexibly
* Ability to analyse, interpret and rationalise research information
* Ability to offer advise promptly to senior academic and research staff at all levels, providing options and solutions as required
* Commitment to team working and being a PPIE champion and role model
* Excellent IT skills including ability to chair and facilitate meetings over MS Teams and Zoom
* Ability to develop a peer-support network and to enlist support from other teams both within and external to the organisation

* Ability to compose strategic documents and reports and to make recommendations to senior management
