The Opportunity
Under the supervision of the OT Manager and a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will deliver effective OT interventions to children and young people and their families, informed by current research, legislation, and policy.
The Role
You will be based within one of the quadrant teams (South), with a requirement to work across different locations based on service demand. Your casework will focus on children and young people requiring equipment and adaptations to their homes. You should be an effective communicator and committed to delivering high-quality services. The children and young people's disabilities team is dedicated to maximizing independence and well-being for children and young people with additional needs.
Job Purpose Summary
Under supervision, deliver effective OT interventions to children, young people, and their families, based on current research, legislation, and policy.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Facilitate choice and empowerment by promoting independence.
2. Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed to protect children and young people.
3. Provide information and advice on additional support services.
4. Brief supervisors and team managers on case developments.
5. Participate in supervision and annual appraisal for professional development.
6. Assist in developing and implementing new service initiatives.
7. Contribute to team development and attend meetings to share best practices.
8. Must be mobile across Essex, with a valid driving license and transport, unless alternative arrangements are in place.
Role Specific Accountabilities
1. Conduct specialist assessments considering societal, cultural, and environmental barriers.
2. Assess the impact of impairments on development and well-being.
3. Recognize safeguarding risks and support investigations.
4. Assess needs and risks, and plan appropriate actions.
5. Coordinate services to meet eligible needs efficiently.
6. Collaborate with other professionals to meet needs.
7. Prepare detailed reports and plans, including adaptations for environmental barriers.
8. Ensure safe use of equipment, evaluate effectiveness, and instruct families accordingly.
9. Manage a caseload appropriate to your expertise.
10. Maintain clear, professional records and contribute to workload statistics.
The Experience You Will Bring
* Diploma of the College of Occupational Therapists or BSc.O.T. or equivalent qualification recognized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
* HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
* Experience working with children and young people with disabilities.
* Knowledge of equipment assessment and prescription to promote independence.
* Knowledge of adaptations to promote independence.

The role requires mobility across Essex and beyond, including travel with service users. A driving license and access to a car are essential unless alternative arrangements are possible.
