The role of Supervising Social Worker within Fostering
* Support, monitor, and develop local authority foster carers according to the 2011 National Minimum Standards and fostering regulations to safeguard children in care.
* Co-lead training for foster carers and undertake assessments when circumstances change. Good report writing skills are required. Other duties include:
* Supporting foster carers via home visits and phone contact, including at least one unannounced visit annually.
* Monitoring and reviewing care provided by foster carers to ensure safety, health, and nurturing environments.
* Completing household reviews within deadlines and following Fostering Panel procedures.
* Supporting foster carers through complaints and child protection procedures.
* Participating in the matching process for children and foster carers, ensuring the best fit and addressing gaps.
* Providing foster carers with all necessary documentation and maintaining secure records.
* Ensuring statutory support from social workers and professionals involved.
* Supporting contact arrangements for children as per care plans.
* Helping foster carers ensure children’s voices are heard in reviews and complaints.
The Experience You Will Bring
* Clear targets and objectives as part of performance management.
* Recognized social work qualification (Diploma, degree, or master's) with current registration with Social Work England.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Extensive social work experience with up-to-date knowledge of legislation, especially related to Homelessness.
* Experience chairing meetings with clients, families, and professionals.
* Strong relationship-building skills with partners and community agencies.
* Understanding of delivering value-for-money interventions balanced with needs.
* Proven decision-making ability to manage risks effectively.
Mobility and Transport
The role requires travel across Essex and beyond, transporting service users and belongings. A driving license and access to a vehicle or other mobility means are essential.
