Join our laboratory team in Wallingford and play a key role in delivering high‑impact geotechnical data that supports major infrastructure and environmental projects across the UK and beyond. As a Staff Laboratory Technician, you’ll be part of a friendly, collaborative team working hands‑on with soil and rock samples to produce accurate, reliable results that help shape the world around us. This is an on‑site role in a modern laboratory where you’ll work closely with technicians, engineers, and team leaders. You’ll report to a Team Leader within your testing area and contribute to a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Your Role And Responsibilities
* Perform a variety of laboratory tests on soil and rock samples, following client specifications and industry standards.
* Accurately record and calculate test data using spreadsheets and data logging systems.
* Ensure all testing is carried out to the highest safety and quality standards.
* Collaborate with team leaders and quality engineers to ensure timely and compliant data delivery.
* Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, keeping accurate records of checks and servicing.
* Support the lab’s accreditation to ISO 17025 by upholding rigorous quality procedures.
* Contribute to a positive QHSSE (Quality, Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) culture through active participation and awareness.
What You’ll Need To Thrive In This Role
* 5+ GCSEs (or equivalent), ideally with English, Maths, and Science.
* Strong numeracy and literacy skills, with attention to detail in data handling and documentation.
* Basic IT skills, including confidence using Excel and digital data systems.
* A proactive, safety‑conscious mindset and willingness to learn new testing techniques.
* Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential – full training will be provided.
* Full UK working rights without the need for sponsorship.
