The Role
As part of one of the UK’s largest building engineering consultancies, you will work with a multi‑disciplinary team on high‑profile projects such as Heathrow’s Terminal 2, Doha’s new metro, the £1 billion Elephant and Castle redevelopment in London, the ExCeL centre extension, and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young Persons in Edinburgh. Your day‑to‑day tasks will vary as you are exposed to all aspects of our work so you can discover what suits you.
Responsibilities
* Work on live projects from day one.
* Engage in a variety of sectors from healthcare to hotels.
* Produce detailed designs and drawings.
* Use the latest computer modelling software such as CAD and Revit.
* Undertake site surveys.
* Research ground‑breaking technologies.
* Continuously develop through CPD and learning opportunities.
* Review building designs for compliance and design bespoke fire engineering solutions.
* Undertake calculations for smoke and temperature spread; model smoke, evacuation, CFD simulations, detailed fire dynamics and structural assessments.
* Analyse potential fires, research problem areas and develop advice and recommendations for life‑safety systems and fire strategy reports.
* Communicate regularly with project teams, clients, end‑users and statutory authorities.
* Receive dedicated mentoring, supervision and training to support your development.
About You
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
* Expected or achieved a 2.2 or above in an Engineering Council‑accredited degree, ideally Fire Safety Engineering or a related discipline (Building Services, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) or a science‑based degree (Maths, Physics).
* A master’s or other relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
* Ideally a grade B or above in A‑Level maths or a science‑related subject.
* Previous placement or work experience in a similar industry is an advantage.
* Understanding of CFD or similar modelling software is an advantage.
* Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills.
* Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
* A friendly, ambitious and confident individual with a flexible and resilient approach.
