Senior Diagnostic Support Technician – Automotive Electronics

Salary: £40,000–£45,000

We’re working with a specialist automotive electronics business based in Heanor, Derbyshire, supporting trade garages and workshops across the UK. They are looking to recruit a Senior Diagnostic Support Technician to join their technical support team, providing expert-level remote diagnostics and fault-finding assistance.
This role is ideal for an experienced Master Technician or Diagnostic Technician looking to move off the tools, or for someone already working in a technical support, helpline, or remote diagnostics environment.
The Role
This is a phone-based technical role focused on remote diagnosis and problem solving. You’ll use your in-depth automotive knowledge to identify root causes of complex vehicle faults and guide workshops towards effective repair solutions. You’ll work closely with internal engineering and technical teams to ensure a high standard of support is delivered on every case.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert remote technical support to trade garages and workshop technicians
Diagnose complex vehicle faults using structured questioning and technical reasoning
Interpret fault codes, live data and diagnostic reports to identify root causes
Collaborate with internal technical and engineering teams to resolve issues efficiently
Maintain accurate records of diagnostic cases and technical findings
Communicate clearly, confidently and professionally with customers Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience within the automotive industry
Background as a Diagnostic Technician, Technical Support Specialist, Technical Helpline Advisor, Field Technical Expert or Warranty Diagnostics professional
Strong understanding of modern vehicle electronics, ECUs and fault-finding techniques
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Confident communicator with a customer-focused mindset
Comfortable working in a phone-based, team-oriented technical environment
