Overview

We are recruiting 2 practicing Solicitors, Barristers or Chartered Legal Executives to provide legal advice, support and assistance to council officers and members on contentious and regulatory functions including representation at court, inquiries, public tribunals and other forums in the areas of Housing, Licensing, Information Assurance, Environmental Law and Planning. The successful candidate will also support and advise council officers and members in respect of Data Protection and Freedom of Information as well as advising at planning and licensing committees, providing a comprehensive legal service to the Council at all times. Substantial experience in planning and/or licensing is essential; it is not required to have experience in all of the mentioned areas.

Full time, permanent and agile working.

Responsibilities

* Provide legal advice, support and assistance to council officers and members on contentious and regulatory functions, including representation at court, inquiries, public tribunals and other forums.
* Advise on Data Protection and Freedom of Information; advise at planning and licensing committees; deliver a comprehensive legal service to the Council.
* undertake the full range of civil and criminal litigation and regulatory law work, including complex drafting, conducting hearings and appearing as an advocate for the Council.
* Manage complex legal case work and procedure in magistrates and civil courts; maintain excellent communication with clients.


Qualifications and experience

* Substantial experience in planning and/or licensing is essential.
* Experience in civil and criminal litigation; ability to conduct hearings and draft complex documents.
* Excellent communication skills.
